Are You Ready for Plastic Surgery? 5 Ways to Know for Sure

Make no mistake – plastic surgery is a big step in your life. Of course, as a plastic surgery practice, we believe that this field has great things to offer many different people from all walks of life. With that said, not everyone is ready for plastic surgery. Before you commit to any procedure, we want to make sure that you are ready for what is to come.
With that in mind, we created this post to give you a better idea of how to determine whether or not you are ready for plastic surgery. Consider the five points below to determine whether or not you are reading to start on your journey of plastic surgery!
#1 – You Understand the Risks
When you work with an experienced plastic surgeon who has met the rigorous standards for board certification, the risks of a plastic surgery procedure are relatively minimal. However, there are always at least minor risks associated with any kind of surgery. Before having your work completed, you first want to make sure that the benefits are worth the risks for you personally.
Of course, with regard to potential risks, you will want to speak your doctor regarding the procedure you are considering to learn more about what can happen. In most cases, the potential risks are very small, while the rewards are quite significant. In any case, educating yourself completely is the best way to go.
#2 – You Have Help
Depending on the type of procedure you are going to have completed, you may need some help with your day-to-day life for a short period of time. Do you have someone available to help you? It is important to schedule your procedure carefully, during a time when you will be able to secure the help of a friend or family member. You don’t want to be stressed after your operation by needing to find someone to help you with basic daily tasks. The days after surgery should be reserved for rest and recovery, rather than stress. Also, make sure you can take the appropriate amount of time away from work in order to recover fully.
#3 – You Are Doing This for You
Going through with plastic surgery simply to satisfy someone else is not a great idea. You might think that you are being generous by altering your appearance to please someone such as your spouse, but that is the wrong way to approach this endeavor. Instead, you should be doing it for you and you alone. If you want to wake up and see your new appearance in the mirror each morning, and you want to feel the confidence that can come with your new look, then you are ready for plastic surgery.
#4 – You Are in Good Health
Before having elective plastic surgery, you should first be concerned with taking care of any lingering health problems you may be dealing with. You will need your body to focus its energy on recovering from the procedure, rather than trying to deal with another illness or health issue at the same time. Think about your overall health at the moment and determine whether or not there are any ongoing issues which need to be confronted before plastic surgery can become an option.
#5 – You Have Considered Other Options
In many cases, there are other treatment options available for the problem areas which you would like to address. Those other treatments may or may not be viable for your situation, but they should be considered at the very least. For example, you may want to consider non-surgical approaches such as Botox or Voluma before choosing the surgical option. If those fail to yield the desired results, you might eventually wind up needing surgery – but you will have tried the other options first. Before you opt for plastic surgery, think about other approaches to make sure you aren’t getting ahead of yourself.
In the end, you may find that you are not quite ready to have plastic surgery. That doesn’t mean you need to swear off this idea for good – it just means that it isn’t right at the moment.
On the other hand, after reviewing the list above, you may feel that you are ready and that the time is right to proceed. If that is the case, we would love to hear from you. Please contact our office to get started!
