What Is CoolSculpting?

Developed by a pair of renowned Harvard researchers, CoolSculpting uses the science of cryolipolysis, or "fat freezing," to target areas of fat on patients who are otherwise fit. Fat cells are less tolerant of cool temperatures than surrounding tissue, so the CoolSculpting procedure works by freezing the fat cells without damaging the skin or other cells. As the fat cells gradually die, they are harmlessly absorbed and eliminated by the body.

Benefits of CoolSculpting Treatment

Many patients who want a more toned physique choose CoolSculpting treatment as an alternative to liposuction at our suburban Kansas City clinic. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that permanently removes unwanted fat, whereas CoolSculpting requires no incisions, anesthesia, or downtime.

A CoolSculpting treatment isn't a weight loss procedure; it is designed for those who want to:

  • Reduce and eliminate fat in localized areas, such as the abdomen, flanks, back, and thighs
  • Get rid of that last bit of flab that diet and exercise can't fix
  • Get a trimmer physique without surgery

Preparing for CoolSculpting Treatment

Before undergoing CoolSculpting treatment, you'll have a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons. He or she will help you determine whether or not you're a good candidate for the procedure, and which areas will be treated.

Unlike surgical body contouring procedures, there are few pre-treatment instructions to follow before coming in for your CoolSculpting treatment. You can relax once the one-hour treatment begins. Some of our patients browse on their mobile devices or even take a nap.

CoolSculpting: Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell if I'm a good candidate for a CoolSculpting treatment?

You're a good candidate for the CoolSculpting fat reduction procedure if you are in generally good health, but have bulges of unwanted fat that resists exercise and healthy nutrition. The best way to find out if CoolSculpting is an appropriate treatment is to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon.

What is the cost of a CoolSculpting treatment?

Like most cosmetic procedures, a CoolSculpting treatment is customized for your specific needs. The cost will depend on the number of areas treated and the number of sessions needed to meet your cosmetic goals.

Will I notice immediate results?

Cryolipolysis is a process that causes the gradual death of fat cells. You may see some changes within 3 weeks of the first treatment, but more dramatic results appear after 2 months. Fat cells continue to die and be absorbed and eliminated by the body even 6 months later.

Can I return to work after a treatment?

Yes. Because the FDA-cleared treatment is performed using a hand-held device and doesn't require an incision, there is no downtime associated with the procedure. You can return to work or your typical daily activities immediately after your appointment.

If I gain weight, can I have additional CoolSculpting treatments?

Most our patients are motivated to continue exercising and following good dietary habits after seeing the results of their CoolSculpting procedures. If you do gain weight, it will probably be evenly distributed on your body and not just in the treated areas. CoolSculpting procedures are not meant to be used as an overall weight loss plan.
