Today’s surgeon is Dr. Mark McClung!
Dr. Mark McClung began his journey into medicine by attending the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated with a degree in electrical and biomedical engineering. He went on to medical school at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School, where he found he truly fit in the field of surgery. Deciding to pursue the surgery field further, he joined the University of Kansas Department of Surgery for his general surgery residency. After completing his general surgery residency, he traveled to Birmingham, Alabama, where he finished his plastic surgery residency at the University of Alabama.
Wanting to learn as much as possible about cosmetic surgery, he was selected for a cosmetic fellowship in Miami, Florida, where he trained under some of the best plastic surgeons in the country. During this time, Dr. McClung saw some of the greatest advancements in the area of facelifts and blepharoplasty of the 90’s and are still relevant today. Over the last 10 years, he has pursued rhinoplasty (commonly known as a “nose job”) as a particular field of interest. He has attended a variety of specialty meetings and courses in this particular area and he has spent his time perfecting his technique in rhinoplasty as well as all other areas of facial surgery.
Dr. McClung is a Kansas City native and is thrilled to be able to provide his expertise to his hometown community. He loves the challenge of plastic surgery, providing customized care to each patient and seeing his patients happy with their new look. He has dedicated his career to ensuring that all of his patients receive excellent care, including solving difficult problems and alleviating any concerns so that each patient who walks out of his office feels good about their choice and has the best results possible.
To ensure that his patients are receiving the best of the best, Dr. McClung is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and he is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is also a past president of the Kansas City Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. McClung considers being a plastic surgeon a commitment to a lifetime of learning and researching new advancements and technologies in his field. During his career, Dr. McClung has presented and published in the areas of breast, head and neck reconstruction.
During the early years, through the development of the Associated Plastic Surgeons practice, Dr. McClung and his associates focused more on trauma and reconstructive surgery. Currently Dr. McClung’s practice is centered more toward cosmetic surgery, while he and his partners still offer a wide range of services including breast reconstruction and treatment of skin cancer.
In addition to his medical service, Dr. McClung is dedicated to serving his community outside of his practice. He enjoys volunteering and served on the board of The Hope Center from 2006 to 2014, where he helped to develop youth outreach programs, leadership development programs, family outreach programs and affordable housing resources. He enjoys serving in his church alongside his wife and three children. In his free time, you can find Dr. McClung on a golf course or on the water enjoying a variety of water sports. Dr. McClung is also an avid reader, so if it is too rainy for outdoor activities, you will find him spending his day catching up with a good book and spending quality time with his family.
