Plastic Surgery Trends for 2017

Plastic Surgery Trends for 2017

The beginning of the new year is well-known for two things: resolutions and predictions. There are countless blogs predicting “What will be the color trend in 2017” or “The top 10 podcasts in 2017.” Making predictions is exciting because we can watch throughout the year to see if we were right on the money or we totally missed the mark.
We like to make our own predictions on what we think will be trending in our field during the new year. So, after much consideration, we have made some predictions for what we believe will be the most popular trends in cosmetic and plastic surgery during 2017.
Drumroll, please!
Gender Equality
In today’s society, men are just as concerned with their appearance as their female counterparts. The rough and ragged look is no longer mandatory. Many men have traded in their lassos and sun weathered skin for a cushy office and quarterly Botox injections. Jobs are hard to find, and even harder to get, so confidence is key. Men and women want to look their best when they step into the board room for a big presentation, and especially, when they are interviewing for a job and the stakes are high.  We expect to see an increase in male procedures including injectable fillers, laser hair removal and hair transplants.
Less Is More
Over the years, there has been a significant shift in the way women and men want to look. There is no longer a desire to have huge hair and parachute pants and the same goes for super-huge breasts. Today, we are choosing to stay close to our natural form by enhancing what we already have. Body contouring procedures help to give us a shapely form and injectable fillers boost our natural production of collagen, so we look younger and slimmer without an extremely noticeable change. Think of it this way, your goal should be to create the best version of yourself; not to completely change the way you look. We predict that we are going to see more patients who choose non-invasive body contouring procedures and facial fillers. Which leads us to our next two predictions.
Non-Surgical Body Contouring
To go along with the “less is more” concept, we believe these three non-surgical treatments will top the charts in 2017:

  • Coolsculpting – A non-surgical body contouring treatment that shrinks love handles, back fat, thighs, and other areas of unwanted fat by freezing the cells causing them to die. The body expels the dead cells over a period of time.
  • ThermiTight – You can get rid of sagging skin around the neck, back, chest and arms by using the latest technique in body contouring, ThermiTIght. ThermiTight uses heat to stimulate the production of collagen which helps to lift and tighten the skin.
  • Kybella – Kybella is an injection of synthetic deoxycholic acid that shrinks the submental fat, also known as the double chin. The deoxycholic acid is naturally found in the body and its main job is to help with the breakdown of fat. When Kybella is injected, the acid destroys the fat cells and reduces the appearance of the double chin.

Love Your “Selfie”
The “selfie” movement is a big deal and it is here to stay! The social media trend has men and women sprinting to the office for procedures that will brighten the skin, take away fine lines and remove those pesky unwanted hairs. Having a good selfie is high on the priority list for most people, and we see the trend continuing way beyond 2017. Your common wrinkle reducers, such as Botox and Juvederm, will still be popular, but facial procedures such as the eyelid lift and neck lifts will be just as prevalent. We also predict that the ThermiSmooth hand-held device (sister to ThermiTIght) will be popular for reducing wrinkles and facial sagging. Just like the ThermiTIght, ThermiSmooth stimulates collagen production by heating target areas around the neck, forehead, chin and eyes.
The Tried and True
Certain plastic surgery procedures will always be “in style.” Breast augmentations, tummy tucks and facelifts will continue to be the most sought-after procedures year after year. Whether done together as part of a mommy makeover or individually, these procedures are commonplace in most plastic surgery offices.
While we are excited to see how our predictions will measure up to others in our field, we know that the types of procedures we perform are not the most important part of our practice. Our patients are our top priority, and our goal is to make sure that every patient has an exceptional experience when they visit our office. Contact us today for a consultation.
