What is Abdominoplasty?

What is Abdominoplasty?

Are You Looking for Abdominoplasty in Kansas City?

In the world of plastic surgery, there are many opportunities to get lost in the medical jargon. Our goal at Associated Plastic Surgeons is to educate our clients first to help them decide the procedures that would work best for them. To accomplish this, we must break down the jargon and describe our procedures in everyday terms.  Throughout this article, we will be explaining the procedure known as abdominoplasty and why this could be a good fit for you. Let’s explore what happens during this procedure.

The Goal of Abdominoplasty

Multiple pregnancies, significant weight loss, or the natural aging process may have left you longing for a firm, smooth midsection. While exercise can burn fat and tone muscles, it cannot eliminate loose skin and stretch marks. This is where our board-certified plastic surgeons in Kansas City come into the mix. They can renew this area with a procedure called an abdominoplasty, or what is better known as a Tummy Tuck.

Our surgeons personalize each tummy tuck procedure to address your unique needs and goals. There are many reasons to consider a tummy tuck. Those may include a desire to renew your body image and confidence. Tummy tucks can repair stretched abdominal muscles and provide a firmer, smoother profile. If you’re considering tummy tuck surgery in Kansas City, you will start with a private consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons.

“Tummy tucks can repair stretched abdominal muscles and provide a firmer, smoother profile.”

How It Is Done?

Our abdominoplasty procedures are performed at licensed surgical centers while the patient is under general anesthesia.  The surgeon begins by placing an incision horizontally between the hip bones just above the pubic area. Cesarean section scars may be removed at this time.

When performing a complete tummy tuck, the surgeon makes a second incision that encircles the belly button. The abdominal muscles are then repaired, and liposuction performed to remove the excess belly fat and contour the waist and hips. The skin is then pulled down, the excess skin removed, and the incisions are closed. Temporary drainage tubes may be inserted under the skin to reduce swelling and improve the healing process. Your renewed body contour should last as long as you maintain your weight and general fitness.

Other Benefits

A tummy tuck surgery is often done to restore the pre-pregnancy shape of the abdomen. However, the March issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®  talks about how a tummy tuck surgery with muscle repair can also improve back pain and urinary incontinence after childbirth.
