Microneedling and our VI chemical peels in Kansas City are two very popular non-surgical facial procedures among women here at Associated Plastic Surgeons. However, not many people know the difference between microneedling and VI chemical peels and which one they should do. 

What is Microneedling? 

Microneedling involves the use of tiny needles to puncture the skin to boost collagen production. Collagen is a protein in the body that is key to keeping skin smooth and firm. The older we get, our collagen levels naturally decrease. Acne scarring is another instance that can cause our collagen production to decline.   

The microneedling process is a non-surgical, safe procedure to perform on all skin types. Many people come to our office for microneedling in Kansas City to help treat acne scars, sunspots, wrinkles, large pores, etc.  

What are VI Chemical Peels? 

VI Chemical Peels contain a synergistic blend of powerful ingredients suitable for all skin types. This medium depth peel performs the following: 

• Improves skin tone, texture, and clarity 
• Reduce age spots 
• Improve hyperpigmentation (including melisma) 
• Soften lines and wrinkles 
• Clear acne skin conditions 
• Reduce acne scars  
• Stimulate collagen production levels for firmer, more youthful skin 

When the chemical solution is applied to the skin, the chemicals will react and exfoliate the skin’s top layer, causing it to peel off and leave room for new skin growth. 

What to Expect From Each 

For optimal results, microneedling typically involves multiple treatment sessions. Most clients will receive anywhere from 4-6 treatments, depending on their skin type. Side effects of microneedling include mild redness and some irritation, and your esthetician will recommend avoiding excessive sun exposure for at least two weeks after treatment. 

As for VI chemical peels, procedures can be repeated every three to nine months. However, chemical peels have longer recovery times than microneedling, as your skin is slowly removing skin cells.
