What Is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift, sometimes called a forehead lift by our Kansas City patients, is a plastic surgery procedure that improves the appearance of the facial region between the upper eyelids and scalp, extending to the temples. A brow lift can be performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery or face lift surgery to correct age-related changes to the eyes and mid- to lower face and neck regions. A brow lift can create a more alert and youthful appearance by improving a low or sagging brow, as well as minimizing the appearance of lines and creases in the forehead.

Preparing for a Brow Lift
Before your brow lift, you’ll meet with one of our plastic surgeons for a consultation. During this meeting, you’ll be asked many questions in order to determine whether you’d be a good candidate for the procedure. Your surgeon will also want to discuss your health history and lifestyle, as well as the likely outcome and potential risks associated with your surgery.

How do I know whether I’m a good candidate for a brow lift?
As with all patients pursuing surgical procedures, we recommend that prospective brow lift patients be nonsmokers who are in generally good health. Ideal brow lift candidates are adults who have healthy facial tissue and muscles. Candidates should also have specific and realistic goals for improvement of the upper face.
What is the recovery process like after brow lift surgery?
Following all of your surgeon’s instructions is essential to a successful recovery. Once your surgery is completed, your forehead may be taped and your head loosely wrapped to minimize swelling and bruising. You’ll be instructed to keep your head elevated at all times until most swelling has subsided. During your initial healing process, you may experience some swelling, bruising, irritation, or dry eye, as well as discomfort that can be controlled through medication, cold compresses, and topical ointment.
You’ll need to enlist a trusted loved one to drive you to and from your surgery and stay with you throughout the night. You may return to light activity as soon as you feel ready, which is often within a few days of surgery. Initial wound healing may take 5 to 10 days, at which time any clips or sutures will be removed.
What are the long-term effects of a brow lift?
Final results take several weeks to develop. It may take up to a year for incision lines to fully refine and fade; although healing varies. Diligent sun protection is essential until the healing process is fully complete. Continue to follow your plastic surgeon’s instructions, and attend follow-up visits as scheduled.

Although a brow lift can be expected to correct certain conditions indefinitely, you will continue to age naturally. Lifelong sun protection and a healthy lifestyle will help to maintain your results and extend the life of your brow lift.
