Dr. Sheryl L. Young
As one of only a handful of female plastic surgeons in the Kansas City area, Dr. Sheryl Young brings an intimate understanding, as well as her professional medical training, to addressing women’s issues. Recognized early in her practice as a leader and an innovator, Dr. Young was named to the Kansas City Business Journal‘s annual “Forty under 40,” a list of up-and-coming community leaders. She was named as one of Squire Magazine‘s “Top Doctors” in 1998 and 2002 and has been named a “Super Doctor” every year since 2006. Her accolades and reputation have helped her become one of the most trusted doctors for plastic surgery in Kansas City.
Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dr. Young began her training by earning a biochemistry degree from Louisiana State University. She went on to attend the prestigious Tulane School of Medicine, followed by a general surgery residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Her plastic and reconstructive surgery residency was at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. She received additional training in microsurgical surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston. She is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.
In consultations with her patients, she is often asked when the right time is for BOTOX®Cosmetic or a face lift. Her advice? “Stay ahead of it.” While she enjoys all areas of plastic surgery, anti-aging treatments have become increasingly important, both professionally and personally. She has used BOTOX herself for more than 10 years. “I personally am using this approach in order to delay the need for surgery until I feel I’m ready.” Injectable treatments such as JUVÉDERM®, used to fill lips and lines, can also help roll back the clock. She feels that, just as aging is a process, looking your best is also a process.
Her philosophy of treating the person, not just the body part, has distinguished her as a caring presence among plastic surgeons. She sets a good example for her patients by personally maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine. Although she performs all aspects of plastic surgery, she has created a following in breast surgery — from augmentation and lifts to reduction and reconstruction. Artistic by nature, she combines her love of art and beauty when using her skills in both reconstructive and cosmetic procedures.
