Dr. Nahid Shahrooz

Dr. Nahid Shahrooz

Dr. Nahid E. Shahrooz is a board-certified dermatologist in Leawood at our suburban Kansas City practice who specializes in detecting and treating suspicious skin growths early. She believes deeply in skin care education and preventive medicine.

Besides the surgical removal of lesions and skin cancer, Dr. Shahrooz uses her expertise to meticulously examine patients for suspicious moles and to promote a nutritious diet that boosts the health of the skin. She encourages everyone, especially fair-skinned individuals with light hair, to schedule full body examinations regularly with a board-certified dermatologist.

Patients can call our office to schedule an appointment to meet with Dr. Shahrooz.

“Removing precancerous lesions, suspicious moles, and skin cancers in their early stages helps save lives,” she says. “Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S., with more than 3.5 million cases diagnosed each year. That’s why I’m so passionate about preventive care and helping patients understand how to routinely check their skin for suspicious growths.”

Dr. Shahrooz had a private practice in Indianapolis specializing in medical dermatology before moving to Kansas City to join Associated Plastic Surgeons. Described as compassionate, honest, and approachable by her patients, Dr. Shahrooz has more than 30 years of experience as a dermatologist. She decided to specialize in dermatology when she realized that the skin often reflects internal diseases, such as diabetes, thyroid disease, and cancer.

After completing medical school in Iran, Dr. Shahrooz completed a dermatology residency and fellowship training at St. John’s Hospital in London, England. She then moved to the U.S. and served a 2-year residency in the dermatology department at the University of New Mexico.

She believes the doctor-patient relationship is vital to excellent health care. “Effective communication, collaboration, and working together toward the same goal are the keys to the most effective treatment.”
