Preparing Your Skin for Dermaplaning in Kansas City

Preparing Your Skin for Dermaplaning in Kansas City

Many people are looking for ways to make their skin look healthy and younger while still having natural appearance.  One of the more popular ways to do this is through a procedure called Dermaplaning in Kansas City.  Although this process can look intimidating to someone unfamiliar with it, the entire process is much less invasive than you might think.

Dermaplaning in Kansas City involves a licensed clinician using a medical-grade scalpel and gently swiping it across the skin to remove “peach fuzz” and any dead skin cells on the neck and facial areas.  The process sounds somewhat painful, but it is actually very painless.  In fact, many cosmetic surgeons in Kansas City report that their patients enjoy the soft sensation of the blade on their face.

“…the entire process is much less invasive than you might think.”

Getting Ready for Dermaplaning

If you have decided to pursue dermaplaning from a premier plastic surgery med spa in Kansas City, like Associated Plastic Surgeons, we have some helpful tips on getting ready for your appointment.  A few things you should do to prepare for your procedure are:

  • Limit Sun Exposure
  • Stop Using Exfoliating Creams or Lotions
  • Avoid Waxing

Limit Sun Exposure

If your skin has even the slightest of sunburns, it may still be irritated enough that it is too risky for even the best Kansas City plastic surgeons to complete the dermaplaning procedure.  If you are prone to burns or redness from sun exposure, we highly recommend avoiding direct sunlight for one to two weeks leading up to your procedure.

Stop Using Exfoliating Creams or Lotions

We recommend avoiding any facial creams used to exfoliate the skin during the final five days leading up to your dermaplaning in Kansas City appointment.  The dermaplaning procedure is already designed to provide maximum skin exfoliation, so using creams, scrubs, or lotion can actually over-exfoliate the skin.  When the skin is over-exfoliated, it becomes easily irritated.

Avoid Waxing

Waxing, like dermaplaning, is used to remove unwanted hairs from your face.  The difference is, waxing can remove healthy skin cells on the face, not just the excess cells.  So, avoid waxing for at least two weeks before your dermaplaning procedure to ensure that your skin will not be at risk for excess irritation after your dermaplaning session is complete.
