Originally from Paris, Texas, Dr. Rast received an undergraduate degree in animal science from Texas A&M University and his medical degree from Southwestern Medical School at the University of Texas. He completed his internship and general surgery residency at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport and his plastic surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. He was awarded a fellowship for hand and microsurgery at the prestigious Christine M. Kleinert Institute in Louisville, Kentucky.
He joined Associated Plastic Surgeons in 2000, specializing in cosmetic surgery. The practice’s excellent reputation for medical care, as well as superior, personal service, initially attracted him to the office. Dr. Rast’s practice also encompasses a clinic and surgical practice at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Each year, along with a small team from Children’s Mercy Hospital, Dr. Rast travels to the Pazapa Center for Handicapped Children in Jacmel, Haiti, to provide clinical evaluation and orthopedic and plastic surgery at no cost to the children’s families. “We treat pretty much whatever comes through the door,” Dr. Rast says. “All medical care in Haiti is self-pay, and most of these children would not normally have a chance at corrective surgery.”
Dr. Rast enjoys the challenge of seeing each circumstance as unique. He observes and listens to each patient for his or her particular objectives and then applies his training and experience to produce a recommendation. His patients consider his compassionate, caring personality to be a wonderful complement to his surgical skills. “Each patient is unique,” he says. “I appreciate the various characteristics and qualities of every individual.”
