There is some pretty amazing news that we want to share with you: breast implants are not just for younger women! It’s true! Women of all ages can gain confidence from a breast augmentation.
Have you ever Googled breast implants? If you have, you may have gotten the impression that you have to be in your 20s or 30s to reap the benefits of a breast augmentation but that is just not the case! Many women who are over the age of 50 are seeking out plastic surgeons who can help them regain their self-confidence in their appearance. Many factors can be the driving force behind their search for the perfect plastic surgeon and the perfect breasts including sagging breasts, breasts that are uneven in size and women who have lost one or both breasts because of breast cancer. Whatever your reasons, breast implants are just as life-changing for women over 50 as they are for women who are younger.
It Is Time to Focus on You!
As we get older, we may find that we have more time and money to focus on our own needs. When we are in our 20s, we are finishing our education and beginning our careers or families. Throughout our 30s and 40s, we are running to sporting activities, moving up the corporate ladder and saving for college. You may be at a point where you are settled in your career or your children are grown and your finances are stable. Now is the time to focus on what you want to feel better about yourself. Breast implants can help you look and feel younger. They are also used to repair the effects of pregnancy and aging, which we will talk about next.
Age, Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Take a Huge Toll on Your Breasts!
By the age of 50, most women have made the decision (or mother nature has made the decision for us!) that our child-bearing days are over. Whether you have had one pregnancy or multiple pregnancies, whether you breastfed or not, and your DNA will play a huge roll in what your breasts will look like. If you find yourself with drooping, sagging breasts that are laced with stretch marks, don’t think that you are alone. With so many women looking to restore post-pregnancy bodies, many plastic surgeons offer a “mommy makeover”, a combination of target procedures such as a breast implant, breast lift, and tummy tuck.
Regain Confidence After a Mastectomy!
Unfortunately, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, and 95% of these women will be over the age of 40. The good news is there are 2.9 million breast cancer survivors, women who have beaten the odds but may have lost one or both breasts in the process. After a mastectomy (the medical term for removal of the breasts), women have the option to get their breasts reconstructed by a plastic surgeon. There are two ways to have a breast reconstruction. First, a plastic surgeon can use breast implants and a skin graft to construct your new breasts during your mastectomy procedure. The implant is placed under the muscle and a graft is made, either of skin or mesh, to hold the implant in place. Over a period of time, and many more procedures, your breasts will be formed to look as close to the real thing as possible.
If you are having chemo or radiation after your mastectomy, you may want to wait to get your reconstruction. You can still get breast implants at a later time when you are totally finished with your treatments. It is important to be in good health before getting your new breasts to avoid infection or any type of setback. It is important to remember that whether you get your breasts immediately after your mastectomy or a few months later, your new breasts will look and feel natural.
